Stocks Of The Month: AMD, NVDA

I think I've covered NVDA fairly thoroughly...so let's focus on the first new stock addition to the portfolio since October 2017(!)...

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)

  • $30.6B market cap
  • no dividend
  • $6.5B revenue
  • 6% revenue growth
  • $0.3B operating cash flow
  • -$0.1B free cash flow

Whereas Intel and NVIDIA have $226B and $111B market caps respectively, AMD is substantially smaller.  It is arguably the only significant competitor for either company, and is inarguably gaining technological ground on both.  In the cloud, AMD has struck deals with Amazon and Google.  In gaming, AMD will the chip provider for Microsoft's newest XBOX.  And in desktops, AMD will be the first to sell 7mm CPUs and GPUs, which promise increased capabilities and lower power consumption.

I have previously stated my belief that NVIDIA deserves the current market cap of Intel (104% upside); additionally, I now believe that AMD deserves the current market cap of NVIDIA (258% upside).

One more thing:  I've swapped the target allocations for Microsoft (now 16%) and Tesla (now 5%).  This should allow Tesla, Alphabet, and Facebook - three stocks I like very much, yet have no desire to add more of - to float along comfortably for some while as at least 15% combined of my portfolio.  Meanwhile, I've got my work cut out for me to add more MSFT...and I look forward to it.

Here's my current portfolio (buy and hold). As always, I believe in all of these stocks - until I sell them.
